“In the Dark” wins BEST EDITING at LNHFF!

The main event of the Late Night Horror Film Festival took place yesterday as planned (screenings took place the two previous days for judging), and a grand time was had by all. In attendance on behalf of “In the Dark” was Art Chmielewski, who generously allowed us to shoot the movie in his home (which many in the audience not only loved but agreed that helped the movie work); Robert Salcido, who was our back-up boom operator and myself.

Despite a small turnout, I couldn’t take 10 steps without someone shaking my hand and congratulating me on a well-made movie! It was quite bizarre to be getting this kind of recognition after the movie had been finished for so long, and from complete strangers! At the after-party, I had long conversations with people who were just over the moon about “In the Dark,” debating theories over what happened and what could’ve been changed, etc. Definitely refreshing to find this many people that involved with the movie!

To cap off the evening, “In the Dark” was given the award for Best Editing, besting out even two feature films, one of which was “Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer,” a well-known and modestly-budgeted movie starring Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger). But I also have it on good authority that it was #2 for a few of the other awards, mainly Best Effects, which, they admit had they known what the effects were, it would have likely won. So in other words, not winning Best Effects is actually a testament to how GOOD and invisible the effects were!!

All around a fun time, watched some great movies, had some drinks, met fun people, networked a bit. A successful festival visit for “In the Dark”. I like to think is a sign of things to come.
